VENICE Why this country and how long. Last year I spent my gap year out in Venecia and Vietnam. I went to Venice because when I was 13 years old I was there with my family and it seems to me incredible and so special so I stayed there 10 months last year. How to get there I went by plane because for me is more comfortable it takes 3 hours approximately and I got the ticket a months before so it was cheaper. You can go by bus, train or car, and it takes 13 hours approximately. Also you can go by ship and it takes 1 day more or less. Culture and other aspects Venice is known to be the city of canals, and it's considered the city of love together with Paris. Venice is one of the most important tourist destinations in the world for its celebrated art and architecture. The Piazza San Marco (or Saint Mark's Square) is probably the most famous place of Venice. From the medieval age it has always been treated as the centre of Venice. In Venice the most used transport is the vaporetto, is like a ship-bus. You can go also by taxi water and gondola. To go by gondola is so expensive; it can cost 100 euro approximately for 1 hour. Just having the experience of travelling gondola once it's enough to know how it is Work and life there There, in Venice, I worked as a photographer and I did an exhibition of some photographs in a gallery. A few time after the boss of the gallery called me and I was hired to do more exhibitions in more galleries in Venice. In the afternoon I worked as a Spanish teacher, I was teaching people from Venice who wanted to communicate in this language. I could save enough money to live there and after travel more. The life in Venice is more expensive than Spain more or less. There I was in a flat with people from different countries of the world: Argentina, Canada, England and India. I liked so much to be with people from differents countries because all of them have something to share with. I learned a lot of things, and I could change my mind a little. Only in a few months we got a strong friendship and it was fantastic. With the money that I earned for the ten months that I spent in Venice I decided to go to Vietnam * Assets of the travel: turning point, people people very different, more independece, an other perspective of life.. VIETNAM: voluntary work Why this country and how long. Well, after having been in Venice I decided to live another different experience as a volunteer. I wanted to live something different and unusual for me. I was in Vietnam 2 months. How to get there I decided to go by plane because it's too far away to use other kind of transport, this is the cheapest and quickest way to get there. You can go by plane, car, or ship but this two lasts are so uncomfortable and not recommendable. Culture and other aspects Vietnamese is the national, official language of Vietnam. It is the native language of Vietnamese people, and of about three million Vietnamese residing elsewhere. The most incredible and known places in Vietnam there are: Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hoy An, Central Highlands, Saigon... Voluntary work I decided to do a voluntary work in a NGO of Vietnam called Solidarités Jeunesses Vietnam. There were three tasks to get involved into this project. Every three days you had to change the task so that you could help everywhere and also learn as much as you were able to. These tasks consisted on: making food and helping in the kitchen; teaching English and cleaning the youth house. It seems that the second job was more interesting; however it was very funny too the other two options. I shared, I laughed and I learned a lot with the other volunteers from all over the world. For my these two experiences were very differents but it changed my perspective of life and were a turning point. I think that everybody should travel and learn from other cultures, people and ways of life.
